Cowboy Boots
Shall I tell you a story?
I bought those cowboy boots in 1990. About the time I turned 30. $110 was a lotta money. I’d just been paid for what Travelers Insurance (my job at the time) called “Super Weekend “. If we worked our full Monday-Friday schedule, 12 hours on both Saturday and Sunday, then our full next week we were paid time and a half for the weekend plus a $1000 bonus. Taxes were calculated before the bonus was paid so we got the full thousand. It was rough, but I did it.
My 30th birthday was hard. My self esteem as a woman and mother was tricky, but when I walked into that shoe store and smelled the leather….saw the boots…they had to be mine.
That money also made a deposit on a bigger home for me and the kids. They fueled everything I did. They don’t really know how much they are still fuel to how I live, but that’s another story.
34 years later I still love these boots. I wore them tonight and plan to wear them tomorrow. They still fit.
